History

Jorgrim is an adolescent human in a clan of dragon hunters hailing from the far north of Nordland. These people’s livelihoods rely on hunting the white dragons that equally send their young to attack and train on the humans. As a part of his coming-of-age into adulthood, he is tasked with slaying a white dragonling to proof his bravery and strength. Journeying out into the tundra and frozen plateaus that makeup his homeland, he searches for a nest of white dragonlings, while avoiding the more dangerous young white dragons. After a week of searching, he is caught in a massive blizzard and foolishly stumbles out only a frozen lake. Out in the open, he is quickly seen and attacked by a pair of young white dragons. Wanting to enjoy themselves, they do not kill him and instead play and harry him for hours. Under cover of the blizzard, he makes a lucky discovery of a cave and takes refuge inside. While taking stock of his situation, he hears a cracking deeper in the cave. Exploring with the light of his crystal rapier, he finds that towards the rear of the cave there is a tiny rift in the wall he can just barely squeeze through. As he does, the area opens out into a caldera, in the centre of which sits a clutch of large, white eggs. As he watches, one of the eggs starts to crack and a pale, scaled head emerges. After a few moments of indecision, he strides forward and strikes off the head of the still unhatched baby dragonling. Taking his ill-gotten spoils, he returns through the waning blizzard to his clan’s grounds. All the while crafting a story of bravery and conquest and hiding from the still circling white dragons.

Upon returning to his clan, he finds the entire plateau frozen into a glacier, with the silhouettes of his clan-members barely visible beneath his feet. Fearing an attack from an adult, or gods forbid an ancient white dragon, he turns to flee, letting his cowardice guide his actions once again. As his trembling footfalls leave his clan behind, he is blinded by the snow whirling around him, before he hears a massive boom and feels the very glacier he stands on trembling. As the snow begins to clear, he is awed by the sight of a breathtakingly massive dragon ahead; by the size alone it can only be a fabled ancient dragon. As he falls to the ground in fear, the dragon’s voice booms out, “Do you know why I am here young hunter? It is because you hold my child in your hands.”

As the final flakes of snow leave the air, he can now see the full majesty of the dragon before him, and comes to the realisation that a white dragon, even of ancient age, would not be able to hold its anger and speak with such poise. No, this is an ancient silver dragon, one of the most respected and revered in all of Nordland. He is then shocked to realize that in his cowardice, he hasn’t killed an evil white dragonling, instead he has slain a beloved silver dragonling before it could even escape the confines of its shell.

The ancient dragon then states it has entombed his clan into glacial ice, so as to warn any others against such a foolish action. The honourable, lawful dragon, however, is not driven by hate, and through its love for humankind has given Jorgrim a chance at redemption. If he is to complete an act of pure selflessness, benevolence and good for the sake of the realm, his clan will be released from their tomb to live again. While the ancient dragon is not willing to go against the natural order of death and revive its child, it instead Wishes for its rebirth, and in doing so transmutes Jorgrim into a Dragonborn, with its child’s head as a catalyst. Jorgrim is then sent off to redeem himself, while shouldering the burden that is wearing the body of the dragonling he so cowardly slayed.
